Dorodjatun was summoned from the Netherlands just as war was breaking out in Europe. Back in Indonesia, he was presented with a sacred kris.
A flurry of activities erupted in a suite of the Hotel Des Indes, located at the southern end of Molenvliet West (today Jalan Gajah Mada in Central Jakarta) one October day back in 1939. There, the king of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat (Yogyakarta sultanate) and his family had arrived to attend a dinner on invitation from the Dutch East Indies Governor General Alidius Warmoldus Lambertus Tjarda van Starkenborgh Stachouwer.
