Three ministers pointedly brought along the leaders of several state-owned enterprises (SOEs) on a mid-September visit to Freeport Indonesia's mines in Mimika, Papua. All three wanted SOEs to start partnerships with Freeport. "We want to see Freeport benefit Indonesia more," said Sudirman Said, minister of energy of mineral resources.

Industry Minister Saleh Husin and National Development Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil went on the visit with Sudirman. The entourage also included, among others, Milawarma, CEO of coal-mining Bukit Asam; Suparni, CEO of Cement Indonesia; Silmy Karim, CEO of weapons-manufacturer Pindad; and Dwi Soetjipto, CEO of oil and natural gas company Pertamina.
