Riches from Shady Businesses

Tuesday, February 23, 2016

Two lit-up advertisements hang on the front wall of the most opulent house in the Kalijodo red-light district at the Pejagalan subdistrict, West Jakarta. One of them with Bali Hai Draft Beer written on it hangs near the entrance to the three-story house. The other, which is on the upper-left part of the front wall on the second-floor level, said Panther, is for an energy drink. This building is the Intan Caf, which belongs to Abdul Aziz, originally from Makassar, South Sulawesi, better known as Daeng Aziz.

This house is a bit far from the banks of Angke river. This Spanish-style home is set back on the property, and there is an entrance which is wide enough for two cars. The yard is spacious, doubling as a parking area. Inside the brothel is a dance floor measuring 160 square meters. Intan Caf is the center of Daeng Aziz's business empire. In addition to the brothel, he has another house in Kalijodo, where he lives.
