The Masela Face-Off

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

Rizal Ramli's invitation to Inpex Corporation raised questions at the Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities Special Task Force (SKK Migas). On Wednesday in early February, he asked the Japanese oil and gas company to visit his office. The main agenda of this meeting was to discuss the plan to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Abadi gas field of the Masela Block in Maluku.

Feeling that it was unusual the invitation had not come from the technical ministry that handles oil and gas matters, Inpex first asked for clearance from the SKK Migas. "Because the inviting party was a government official, I allowed Inpex to go," said SKK Migas Director Amien Sunaryadi last week. Ronnie Higuchi Rusli, an expert staff member to Rizal Ramli, delivered the invitation.
