Along the two-kilometer long Jalan Benda Raya in South Tangerang, Banten, seven agents compete for a piece of the delivery market. Four of them are under the same flag, the Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir (JNE) and the Citra Van Titipan Kilat (Tiki). The rest are new players in the courier business: JET Express, Wahana and Pos Indonesia.
They are growing in accordance with the region's expanding interest in online shopping. Muhammad Zulfan, owner of a JNE outlet, said the package delivery business rose 10-fold in less than one and a half years. "When we started operations, we delivered 600-1,000 packages per month. Today this has shot up to 9,000-10,000 packages per month," he told Tempo recently.
