False and misleading news reports are being spread on social media. Some are making money from ad revenues on the Internet. Some of it is fallout from a divisive presidential election.

THE Twitter account of Indonesian President Joko Widodo competed against tweets about an "influx" of 10 million Chinese workers. In tweeting activity from Saturday two weeks ago to Tuesday last week on that platform, tweets from @jokowi were attacked from a number of accounts.
