With a state budget that continues to rise annually, President Joko Widodo has been pushing forward with infrastructure construction projects in most parts of the country. This work is not limited to Java, but includes remote and border areas. The Jokowi-Kalla administration has gone all out to complete hundreds of such projects during their five-year term. Some hazards overshadow these accelerated programs, such as the possibility of stalled projects and the risk that state-owned enterprises will be overwhelmed for having to take on debt in excess of their revenue-generating capability. In the first three years of the Jokowi administration, these signs have begun to appear, along with success stories of the completion of various infrastructure projects around the nation.
