THE announcement on Pemandangan newspaper on December 1, 1934, surprised many residents of Batavia (now Jakarta). It said that starting the next day, December 2, the Doctor Moewardi Clinic in Jalan Raden Saleh is open from 6am until midnight. The announcement also said that people with no money can get medicines for free.
At the time, Moewardi was just 27 years old, a fresh graduate from the School tot Opleiding van Indische Artsen (STOVIA)
