Thousands of Jakarta flood victims are now suffering illnesses as a result of the disaster. The Jakarta city administration needs 1,500 doctors to deal with the problem, but only has 500 available.

Aman cradles his child, confused and panicked. The child, only one and a half years old, is ill with serious diarrhea and vomiting. But this child was refused treatment at the Tarakan Public Hospital in Central Jakarta on the grounds that it was not a flood victim, even though its illness is likely an indirect result of the floods. At the time when it was refused treatment, two weeks ago, the Jakarta floods were really at their peak.
