WHEN meeting Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at his residence in Cikeas, Bogor Regency, West Java, in 2011, Marzuki Alie received a reprimand. Marzuki had proposed returning the election of regional heads to the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD). “He reprimanded me, saying the idea of indirect regional elections through the DPRD should not come from the Democrat (Party),” Marzuki recounted to Tempo on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
