Preparations for a US attack have heated things up in Kabul. Afghanistan's border towns are flooded with refugees. The US feels it has got support from enough countries to go ahead with tough action, albeit sometimes through dubious barter deals. TEMPO reports from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

One morning, the Peshawar air was suddenly full of the sound of airplanes. "Has the war started?" asked one reporter. Together with colleagues TEMPO journalist Ahmad Taufik left his inn and watched the sky, full of planes.
