Jamsostek Investments of Note

The state-run social security service Jamsostek has written off Rp79 billion in MTN investments. The government is to revise investment regulations.

RUMORS are rife once again about investments made by Jamsostek, the state-run social security service. This time the issue all revolves around the purchase of medium term notes (MTNs). The twist in the tale is that during last year, Jamsostek had to write off around Rp79 billions worth of problem MTN investments (see table). This had much to do with the failure of the MTN issuing companies to meet their budgeted debt repayment.
