In the 2001 state budget, the exchange rate of the rupiah and the price of oil have been increased, as has targeted state income. However, the deficit is still massive and has to be covered by Rp33.5 trillion from IBRA and state-owned enterprises. But why only part of the deficit, why not all of it?

THERE is no way of avoiding a large deficit in the 2001 state budget (RAPBN 2001). And, in comparison to the assumed basic changes in RAPBN 2001, it is a conspicuous deficit. Although the volume can be compressed, the total amount is still extremely large. Last Friday, the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) eventually agreed to reduce the deficit from Rp52.11 trillion to Rp41.90 trillion, an overall reduction of Rp10.21 trillion. ...
