Economists are divided about the prospects for the Indonesian economy in 2001. They agree on one thing, however: the need for investment in order to ensure sustainable economic growth.

The Indonesian economy did not recover as fast as expected in 2000. Macroeconomic indicators showed improvements, except for the rupiah and the composite share price index in the capital market. Positive signs of improvement have yet to be seen in the investment sector.
