"Up to 70 percent off. Only for three days. Hurry." It sounds like an advertisement for a famous brand of clothes. Other ads promote 50 to 80 percent off the price of household items.
With the upcoming Christmas, Idul Fitri and New Year holidays only a few days apart, shops have intensified the discount war. Everything, it seems, is on sale at knockdown prices. Even vegetables are not safe: Matahari supermarkets are flogging them for less.
