ON the roadside of Paciran-Sukodadi, Banjaranyar village, Paciran, Lamongan, a limestone grinder was roaring noisily. A number of workers were pouring ground limestone into plastic sacks.

Tons of dolomite and phosphate powders are produced by a business unit of Pondok Pesantren Sunan Drajat (Islamic boarding school). “We can produce 300 tons of dolomite fertilizer daily,” said Abdul Ghofur, head of the school.
