TRADE Minister Mari Elka Pangestu was not her usual self. Before leaving for the World Trade Organization (WTO) meeting in Geneva she spoke spiritedly about Indonesia’s strategy at the trade talks. On Tuesday last week, however, she spoke in a high-pitched voice over the telephone as she reported on the collapse of the Geneva talks. “We negotiated for nine days, frequently in talks that would go into the wee hours,” she said.
