THE impact of the global crisis and recession has actually been hitting Indonesia since the fourth quarter of 2008. Farmers in the plantation sector in eight provinces were the first to taste its bitterness, in line with the plunging prices of several plantation commodities in world markets. Even the automotive sector is now lethargic. Car and motor sales continue to decline since last August. The downward trend is continuing this year.
