BANK Indonesia launched a new Rp2,000 banknote, in Jakarta, on Thursday of last week. Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia Miranda Swaray Goeltom said that the banknote became legal tender since 10 July 2009. It is hoped that the new note will meet the needs of the people in an adequate nominal amount, denomination, in a timely manner, and in a condition that's fit for circulation.
