A RECORD that had stood for 28 years was eventually broken this August. The price of sugar for October shipments at the London Stock Exchange was recorded at US$ 537.2 per ton. This means that in a period of eight months, the price of sugar has risen by 69 percent. For shipments in March 2010, the price of sugar is US$601.3 per ton. At the beginning of 2009, prices were in the region of US$330 per ton.
