The ASEAN-China free trade agreement will be effective as of next week. Indonesia has the potential to lose revenues of up to Rp15 trillion. Opportunities are open, but there will be consequences. The government will have to lobby countries one by one.

THE closed coordination meeting, led by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa, on Monday last week, gave a "quiet and calm" impression. It was almost as if there was no violent debate in the closed forum attended by ministers and representatives from economic departments. This was despite the fact that the items on the meeting's agenda were crucial: one of these was the application of the ASEAN-China free trade agreement next year.
