THE House of Representatives is busy making a law on the Islamic poor-due tax (zakat) in order to improve the old regulations from 2009. There are a number of controversial articles in the bill, namely the application of sanctions for delinquent payment of liable parties, tax cuts for zakat payment, and the role of privately-operated zakat collection agencies.
