GRAY fumes billowed out from smokestacks as huge turbines turned generators to produce electricity at power plants operated by the State Electricity Company (PLN) in the West Java town of Bekasi on Wednesday last week. “It’s from here that more than 1,000 megawatts of electricity is produced daily to meet the need of consumers in Java and Bali,” General Manager Muara Tawar Generating Unit, Rully Firmansyah, told Tempo in Jakarta.
