Newmont Wants Government to Get a Stake in Gold

PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) wants the Indonesian government to take the remaining 7 percent stake being divested by the company. We hope the shares would be bought by the government," NTT chief executive Martiono Hadianto told Tempo last week.

Hadianto said NNT would not offer the shares to any other parties. Its unethical if we were to do so before a Supreme Court ruling [on the issue]."

The Finance Ministry has announced plans to buy the shares.
