General importers of premium-class cars are suffering as a result of competition with sole authorized agents. They've now been hit with a new import tax regulation and a requirement to include a vehicle's year of manufacture in its identity number.

COMPETITION between sole authorized agents (ATPM) and general importers of completely built-up (CBU) premium-class Japanese cars has entered a new round. Five years after hitting general importers through a fiscal tariff, the ATPMs have struck again, this time through a regulation requiring car sellers to include the vehicle's year of manufacture.
