Bank Mandiri blocked thousands of its customers' accounts after scammers used hidden cameras to clone ATM cards. Losses incurred by the bank could amount to US$2 billion.

Gunadi Sadikin suddenly became very busy on Tuesday morning last week. Through his Twitter account, the CEO of Bank Mandiri gave a lengthy explanation as to the steps Mandiri had taken to block customer accounts. He also apologized for the unilateral action. "To save our clients' funds, we are taking the proactive step of blocking accounts," Budi tweeted.
