Moratorium On Foreign Vessels Extended
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said the moratorium on vessels of foreign origin would be extended for six months on April 30, citing the continuing practice of foreign ships fishing without certificates of seaworthiness and using trawl nets detrimental to the environment. Many companies have also been found employing foreign crew members.
"Some vessels make a tonnage markdown and fail to activate their VMS (vehicle monitoring system)," she told Tempo on Thursday last week.
