The Veterinary Public Health Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture was abuzz last month, with a research team busily testing 600 samples of animal feed from 35 feed producers. In a second phase, the team will determine whether the cow feed contains salbutamol.
The move was made in response to rumors that cattle-feed companies were using human medicine to build muscle in their cows. "In the previous test, we only tested 100 samples. Now we will check 661 samples from 35 feedlotters (breeders), " Director of Veterinary Public Health Akhmad Junaidi told Tempo on Tuesday last week.
