Freeport Contract Extension Uncertain

The government indicates that the amendment to Freeport Indonesia's from a Contract of Work to a Special Mining Permit (IUPK) will not be decided this year. President Joko Widodo has asked State Minister for National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Andrinof Chaniago to study the changes to the license first. "Before the president gives his permission, we must present the study. The deadline is December 31," said Andrinof at the Presidential Palace last week.
