Jabodetabek Lrt Launched
PRESIDENT Joko Widodo officiated the groundbreaking on the light rail transit (LRT) plying the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi (Jabodetabek) route at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in East Jakarta last Wednesday. Transportation Minister Ignatius Jonan was appointed leader of the project's steering committee. "My job is to oversee the infrastructure construction and operations to ensure they are in line with the plan," said Jonan at the Presidential Palace the day before the inauguration.
Adhi Karya, the project's builder, will proceed in two stages. Phase one will be the construction of a 24.2-kilometer section connecting Cibubur with Dukuh Atas by way of Cawang. In the second phase, which will begin next year, a 17.9-kilometer, East Bekasi-Cawang-Dukuh Atas route will be constructed.
