After nearly 25 years raising chickens for meat consumption, Jenny Soelistiani has been forced to abandon her business. The owner of Sumber Sari Farm in Gantiwarno village, Lampung, swapped her thousands of broiler chickens out for egg-laying hens back late in December 2014.
The shift was brought on by a sharp, two-year running drop in broiler prices, a drop fueled by the entrance of big industry players. "Luckily I was able to make the switch," she said last Wednesday.
