Two weeks ago, Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti met with President Joko Widodo to discuss the ban on cantrang (trawl nets), approved two years ago. "At the meeting, we decided to allow the use of trawl nets until the end of 2017," said Susi at the Palace.
The full ban’s new date is an extension of the original July 2017 schedule. The initial date was already established as a compromise, as fishermen had been firmly opposed
