Public transport fares will go up in some areas and stay the same in others. Some cities have received subsidies, others not. Are these spur-of_the-moment policies just to placate the public?

Minister of Finance Rizal Ramli's forecasts appear to have been close to the mark, although not entirely so. Faced with a 30 percent hike in fuel prices, protesters took to the streets in many areas. However, the public transportation strikes were kept under control and did not degenerate into mass violence.
