Several regions will experience gas shortages starting in 2003 and 2007. But Pertamina is wary about extending gas field contracts to overcome the shortages.

ALETTER from Pertamina landed on the desk of the Managing Director of the Java-Bali Electricity Generating Company at the end of May. The contents were very disturbing. Pertamina announced that it would not be able to provide the 300 million cubic meters of gas required daily by the Gas and Steam Powered Electricity Generating Power Plant at Gresik until 2004.
