Freeport Maneuvers to Challenge Copper Export Duty

THIS month marks the end for Freeport Indonesia to pay a 7.5 percent export duty on the value of the mineral concentrate they export. Next year, if Freeport’s smelter construction does not reach 70 to 90 percent completion, the export duty will increase to 10 percent for the period from January 1 to May 31, 2024. Failure to pay this duty will result in the inability to obtain export permits.
