Operators of the Jawa-1 steam-gas power plant are in a financial strain. Technical problems are slowing down the project’s development.

THE deadline to operate the Jawa-1 steam-gas power plant or PLTGU in Cilamaya, Karawang Regency, West Java, was over two years ago. But as of mid-February, only the unit 2 generator with an 880 megawatt (MW) capacity has been operating commercially. The unit 1 generator, scheduled to start running in January, failed to meet the deadline.
