The journey halfway across the world, from Jakarta to Paris, was not in vain. The creditor countries that are members of the Paris Club eventually agreed to allow Indonesia to reschedule US$5.74 billion of its foreign debt. This covers US$5.3 billion of debts that will soon fall due, the repayment of US$400 in private bonds guaranteed by the government, and US$40 million in the form of debt swaps.
