As passenger numbers drop, Garuda is being forced to discontinue several international routes. Unless this downward trend is reversed, the national carrier may be unable to fulfil its debt payment obligations next year.

Indonesia's Garuda has been mortally wounded and is tumbling from the sky. Owing to the recent terrorist bombings in Bali, traffic on the carrier's international routes has decreased sharply. The number of passengers from Europe and Japan has dropped 20 percent, and from Australia, 40 percent.
