The vast fish polder stretching along Jalan Bidara in Marunda, North Jakarta, emits an awful smell as the sea breeze blows gently. The specific characteristics of the seashore permeate the atmosphere.
On one side, a road bisects the fish polder. Drivers negotiating the road must be alert, as the slightest negligence can send the vehicle splashing into the polder.
The narrow, winding road ends at a 3,500-square-meter wide dry dock.
