Poverty humiliates human dignity, and 30 years of development under the New Order has not freed Indonesia from its clutches. These very clutches are shackling Sinto, currently in her twilight years. Her condition is truly pathetic because after a stroke seven months ago, the grandmother of nine could not budge far from her house located on the riverbank of Kali Ciliwung in the Bukit Duri area in South Jakarta.
