Rampant corruption is still continuing under the administration of President Abdurrahman Wahid. Semester findings of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) indicate that financial irregularities have even occurred in non-lucrative ‘dry’ institutions.

President Wahid has spiritedly expressed his wish to promote good governance. However, this is easier said than done. Corruption, deeply entrenched during the New Order regime, is continuing to persist. As in the past, the provisional outcome of an audit on the 1999-2000 budget conducted by BPK has revealed various diversions in the administration of state funds to the staggering tune of Rp165.85 trillion.
