The knowledge and income of farmers in Batu increases drastically thanks to a free diploma program at Brawijaya University, Malang. It all started from the concerns of former Batu Mayor, the late Imam Kabul.

CLOUDS were hanging over the village of Pasanggrahan, (Batu subdistrict, Batu municipality) East Java. But Mohammad Unjik did not feel disturbed. He got to clear away the weeds from his cabbage patch.

That day the farmer on Panderman mountain had a tight schedule: after clearing the weeds, he had to attend classes. From 2pm to 4pm, Unjik had to attend an organic farming system class.
