Several high schools in Bali have banned the Islamic headscarf. The government is preparing to issue a ministerial regulation.

Troubling news has come from Bali. Mohammad David Yusanto, field coordinator of the Bali Headscarf Advocacy Team, revealed that 39 high schools had banned their girl students from wearing the Islamic headscarf. The schools are spread throughout several regencies, but most are in Denpasar, Badung and Buleleng. "Most of the school bans are unwritten," he said.
