Only five Bali Starlings remain in their wild habitat as last-ditch efforts are in full gear to save the endangered species.

THE white-feathered Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothshildi) with eyes encircled in a shock of blue is in danger of extinction. Last year only five of the species, which is called kedis putih (white bird) by the Balinese, remained in their natural habitat in the West Bali National Park in Buleleng.

Two weeks ago a group of 50 ornithologists and ecologists came to the Park in a major project to save the bird which has become the symbol of the Provinc
