ERWIN Stresemann, a German ornithologist, was traveling to Maluku when his ship developed engine trouble and was forced to stop for repairs in Singaraja. While waiting for the completion of the repair work, Stresemann saw a Bali Starling in Brumbun Bay.

Stresemann fell in love with the beautiful bird and took it home. Later in 1912 he wrote of his discovery in the British Ornithological Club Bulletin.
