THE intense heat of the sun was burning hot at Pasir Pawon. Fortunately, a cool breeze managed to ease the hot air in the karst area of Citatah, Padalarang, West Java. From atop a hill, a stretch of lush green valley could be seen.

However the tranquil atmosphere was soon disrupted by sounds of blasts coming from the slope of Pasir Masigi, right in front of Pasir Pawon. Dozens of sticks of dynamites were set to blow up the limestone walls.
