ALMOST all manmade lakes in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi were built during the Dutch colonial years. The Ciliwung-Cisadane River Authority recorded their number at more than 200. Most of them of the landfill type are prone to collapse. Many of the situ are located high above the surrounding areas as they were originally meant for irrigation. Only 10 percent of them are well maintained.
