Singaporeans were quaking in their face masks last week as haze continued to blanket Riau and parts of peninsular Malaysia, with an impending shift in wind patterns threatening to blow the pollution toward the city state.

Singapore's National Environment Agency warned that as the period between monsoons, which usually lasts from late March to May, drew closer, winds were expected to "turn light and variable in direction," according to Channel NewsA
