Blaze Razes Borneo Orangutan Preserve

Tuesday, December 8, 2015

Over 10 percent of the 1,800-hectare Samboja Lestari forest preserve in East Kalimantan has been lost to forest fires over the last several months.

The destruction has threatened operations at the sanctuary managed by the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF), where dozens of rescued Borneo orangutans, one of two orangutan species left in Indonesia, are rehabilitated with the hope they can be released into the wild.
