Indonesians will soon have to find a different type of wood to make their familiar baskets. The trees it comes from are about to be listed as endangered.

Go to the markets at Cikini Station in Jakarta and you will see lines of cute little baskets made elegantly from strips of wood. Enjoy it while you can. The wood that these baskets are made from will soon be protected by international convention. The basket makers will soon have to find something else to weave with.
